Of flowers, freshness and fragrance

I always have loved flowers 🌸  🌼. I love them for the freshness and fragrance they bring along. I like styling flowers at home too. Recently I have been hunting for a ceramic vase. I like treating myself to freshly cut flowers sometimes and a ceramic vase would be perfect to celebrate their glory. Lately, I have been pondering. Why do I love flowers? Why does visiting a florist and picking flowers excite me so much? There is a childhood memory I hold dear to me. I studied in second standard at that time. My class teacher always encouraged us to go, pick flowers in our school garden. Every morning, before our classes started, I used to go to the garden at the back of my classroom and pick a few, freshly fallen flowers. I would gift them to my teacher everyday. She used to be delighted and thank me graciously. I guess that's when it started. My love affair with flowers. I still like picking flowers. Whenever I am visiting a florist, I take my sweet time to select them.I let my instincts tell me which ones are going home with me. Its a pleasure to let the fresh blooms sit on my dining table. Its a pleasure to gaze at them, to admire those delicate petals. They always manage to do something good to my frazzled nerves. I especially like bringing flowers during winters. I feel happier. They help me to wait joyfully for spring when everything starts waking up from winter. It pains me when the blooms start withering. I somehow always find it difficult to part from them. I always take time to decide whether I should throw them. Sometimes I like keeping them within pages of a book. I like loving flowers, seeing beauty in their colour and smell, understanding the value of something that is short lived. There is scientific evidence too that flowers and plants are natural healers. Their visual stimuli have a positive impact on our productivity. So, go, buy yourself a bunch of flowers. A handful of them is all that you will need. Bring them home. Let them brighten your space. Drink in their beauty. Let their fragrance intoxicate you. I am sure their freshness and fragrance will touch you, refresh you and help you to appreciate more of the ever changing colours that nature has to offer.
