Naisha

I had moved to Calcutta for 3 years.Being new to the city I was taking my time to adjust to the weather, people and pretty much everything in general. One day I was coming back to the place I had rented for myself. I was tired by a long day at work. As I dragged my tired feet into our society, I noticed two small girls holding the gate open for me saying "Come in, Come in fast".After I went inside they closed the gates back. I asked them what happened. They said they are protecting their society. Seeing that one of them was in a chatty mood I asked what her name was and where did she live. "Naisha," she said with the most amazing smile. "I live on 4th floor," she continued. "Oh, I live on 5th. Do come to my place sometime." "Ok," she said and we waved friendly goodbyes. An hour later I had showered and was comfortably snuggled in my bed with a book. Knock Knock! Someone was knocking at my door. "Who is it?", I asked. "It...

Of flowers, freshness and fragrance

I always have loved flowers 🌸  🌼. I love them for the freshness and fragrance they bring along. I like styling flowers at home too. Recently I have been hunting for a ceramic vase. I like treating myself to freshly cut flowers sometimes and a ceramic vase would be perfect to celebrate their glory. Lately, I have been pondering. Why do I love flowers? Why does visiting a florist and picking flowers excite me so much? There is a childhood memory I hold dear to me. I studied in second standard at that time. My class teacher always encouraged us to go, pick flowers in our school garden. Every morning, before our classes started, I used to go to the garden at the back of my classroom and pick a few, freshly fallen flowers. I would gift them to my teacher everyday. She used to be delighted and thank me graciously. I guess that's when it started. My love affair with flowers. I still like picking flowers. Whenever I am visiting a florist, I take my sweet time to select them.I let my inst...

Splash of colours

Image
A colour has a language of it's own. There are people who love warm colours (red, orange and yellow), then there are ones who love the cool ones(blue, green and purple). As for me, I am elated by a splash of any colour. I like white for the feeling of purity and innocence it provides, green for the feeling of healing, balance and good health.I have a liking for blue in particular as it brings along a sense of calmness, serenity, loyalty and truth.  Talking about purple..hmm..Wait a minute! Would you say it is fierce or do you think it signifies calm.Well, I would say both. It is a combination of red and blue afterall. Purple is a colour of rare occurrence in nature. Thus, for ages, it has been a symbol of royalty and luxury. Brown. What do you think of Brown? As I see it, brown is a lovely, natural, neutral one. Being the colour of earth it evokes a sense of being nurtured and comforted.  I love lavender, too, i...

Broken shells

Little girl sat on the beach Little girl wept a little She was heartbroken She looked at the broken shells in her hand She looked at them again She can't stop crying Little girl likes smiling She likes shining bright But looking down at those broken shells She can't stop crying She can't stop crying  Stop crying she will When she accepts When she forgets That she lost something beautiful She is grieving over her loss She likes grieving over her loss She is contemplating  She is waiting For the dark shades to pass For the sun to breakthrough again

Mauritius

Image
My earliest memories of Mauritius are those of the vast stretches of sugarcane plantations on both sides of the road. We were driving to the resort we booked, our home in Mauritius for a few days. I was thrilled to be there, at the island nation in the Indian Ocean. I was excited and looking forward to experience the lure of seaside coupled with the liveliness of the city. We drove on roads surrounded by endless sugarcane fields. Winds ruffling in my hair, I managed to catch glimpses of the deep blue sea stretching into the horizon. The place screamed rosy romance and lazy leisure. At the resort, we were greeted with a glass of cool drink. We chatted with a few people as we waited at the reception for our check in. Tired as we were after the long flight, we sunk into the bed after a quick shower, immediately going into deep slumber. That evening we had time free on our hands which we utilized by exploring around and enjoying some folk dances. We relaxed because we had full days of tou...

Goa..Our sand based paradise !!!!!!!!!

Image
We were greeted by the pleasant, warm afternoon air as we rolled out our luggage through the airport doors at Dabolim airport, Goa. It was thrilling to be on a vacation again. (I never get enough of them!). We chose to stay on Varca beach which happened to be 35 kilometers south of Dabolim airport. The drive to Varca beach was scenic. As we drove on, we left the hustle and bustle behind and entered a calmer and quieter side of Goa. Cruising through the green countryside, I couldn’t help but get lost in my own feel of a paradise. Driving on those tree lined roads, crossing the countless, picturesque villas nestled amidst the lush greenery around, the cool and fresh air. We loved all of it. It was beauty undefined. We checked in our resort and were given one of the corner villas. Once in our room, I quickly arranged our things in the cupboard. I loved the sitting area which opened into a balcony overlooking the poolside. I stood there for a while enjoying the rocking music t...
