Stormy musings

I was going on with my daily routine making sure everything is in place and my home in usual order. Outside I could hear the wind strengthening. Thunder rumbled in the distance.

Peeping out through the window I could see the dark clouds gathering, the sky darkening. Noticing the dropping temperatures, I warmed myself a glass of water and made sure warm clothing is within easy reach. The wind was blowing harder now and the sky continued to darken. A storm was brewing. Not a new thing given the record over the past few days. A part of me was not ready to accept a storm again. But here it was gathering up speed whether I like it or not.

The winds grew stronger by the minute and soon they were raging in full form, gusting against the walls, screaming through the trees.  Soon showers of heavy rain began along with claps of thunder.

The thunder and the shrieking winds made me wonder what it would be like to sail on rough waters in turbulent weather conditions much more severe than this. The thought made me shudder a little. It was intimidating.

As darkness fell, the storm worsened. I stood, still looking out of my window. As the winds kept banging against my glass windows, I am thrown into a different frame of mind. This storm made me think about the storms I have been through, more so of the ones that I have fought in solitude within the confines of my own heart. It reminded of times when those storms raging in my heart almost knocked me off. But then I was also reminded that in those very times I could stand tall and strong inspite of all vulnerabilities and insecurities that I felt. Those times when my belief in myself made me sail smoothly on rough waters.

These shrieking winds and bolts of thunder remind me of the power I hold within. That I can shed all those moments of self doubt that somehow manage to creep inside me. Its strange but true. This joy that I feel when a storm is raging right outside my window, knocking off lamposts and trees on the streets below. I wasn't ready to accept a storm again but I am happy it happened. It only strengthened my belief in myself.
