Stormy musings

I was going on with my daily routine making sure everything is in place and my home in usual order. Outside I could hear the wind strengthening. Thunder rumbled in the distance. Peeping out through the window I could see the dark clouds gathering, the sky darkening. Noticing the dropping temperatures, I warmed myself a glass of water and made sure warm clothing is within easy reach. The wind was blowing harder now and the sky continued to darken. A storm was brewing. Not a new thing given the record over the past few days. A part of me was not ready to accept a storm again. But here it was gathering up speed whether I like it or not.  The winds grew stronger by the minute and soon they were raging in full form, gusting against the walls, screaming through the trees.  Soon showers of heavy rain began along with claps of thunder.  The thunder and the shrieking winds made me wonder what it would be like to sail on rough waters in turbulent weather conditions much more severe...

Blown away

I feel like a feather, light and soft Blowing away with the winds Loving the limitless flying Over lakes, rivers, forests and mountains Unstoppable, invincible I toss and twist, Excitement Hitting every nerve of mine Cruising through the clouds, I see A flock of birds smiling back at me I relish these silky moments Holding them close to me I am dancing seeing the wonders that came my way Today I feel I am Truly blown away

Why I make time for sunsets?

I closed my eyes letting the soft rays fall on my eyes, letting them fill me up with light. I stayed there for a while, soaking in the warmth. I felt free, my senses floating and brimming with joy.  My soul peaceful and nurtured. Opening my eyes I saw a beautiful setting sun. That round ball of orange filled my heart with joy. There is something magical about sunsets. The way skies are lit up with a golden glow. It is that time of the day when most of my important work is done and I can let my hair down and relax. I love sitting in my balcony and watch the sun go down. The warm colours of the setting sun and the stillness of the surrounding sky infuses wonder in my soul. Sunsets inspire me. As the day fades into the night, sunsets remind me there is promise of a new day. It's an opportunity to reset. No matter what my day has been like, good or bad, I get to see and enjoy the sunset every single day. I try taking out few minutes everyday to watch the sun go down, to witness the...

Why I love my mug?

There it was. Sitting on my kitchen shelf. A small and brown one. Glancing upon the mug that I used during my college days, I reflected upon the fact that I have somehow managed to carry it with me till now. This mug of mine has traveled with me to all the cities I have lived in. Looking upon it, suddenly I felt the need to sip my evening tea from it.  So with it I sat in my balcony and spent the next few minutes gazing at the sky and birds with the warm fuzzy memories of my college life that my mug brought along with it. I remembered my friends, our evening tea parties and our endless gossips. The way we studied hard and our carefree laughs when we relaxed. Something dawned upon me then. I am emotionally attached to my mug. I have always been a tea lover. The ritual of making my own tea is a part of my comforting morning routine. To me it is the best way to give a kickstart to my busy day. Oh, what a feeling it is to greet the morning with a sense of warmth in my hands. And it fee...

Naisha

I had moved to Calcutta for 3 years.Being new to the city I was taking my time to adjust to the weather, people and pretty much everything in general. One day I was coming back to the place I had rented for myself. I was tired by a long day at work. As I dragged my tired feet into our society, I noticed two small girls holding the gate open for me saying "Come in, Come in fast".After I went inside they closed the gates back. I asked them what happened. They said they are protecting their society. Seeing that one of them was in a chatty mood I asked what her name was and where did she live. "Naisha," she said with the most amazing smile. "I live on 4th floor," she continued. "Oh, I live on 5th. Do come to my place sometime." "Ok," she said and we waved friendly goodbyes. An hour later I had showered and was comfortably snuggled in my bed with a book. Knock Knock! Someone was knocking at my door. "Who is it?", I asked. "It...

Of flowers, freshness and fragrance

I always have loved flowers 🌸  🌼. I love them for the freshness and fragrance they bring along. I like styling flowers at home too. Recently I have been hunting for a ceramic vase. I like treating myself to freshly cut flowers sometimes and a ceramic vase would be perfect to celebrate their glory. Lately, I have been pondering. Why do I love flowers? Why does visiting a florist and picking flowers excite me so much? There is a childhood memory I hold dear to me. I studied in second standard at that time. My class teacher always encouraged us to go, pick flowers in our school garden. Every morning, before our classes started, I used to go to the garden at the back of my classroom and pick a few, freshly fallen flowers. I would gift them to my teacher everyday. She used to be delighted and thank me graciously. I guess that's when it started. My love affair with flowers. I still like picking flowers. Whenever I am visiting a florist, I take my sweet time to select them.I let my inst...
