27 Dresses

27 dresses is a good movie. My best friend in college suggested it to me. I liked it a lot and have watched it many times since then. I like the storyline which goes on with a light-hearted humor.

Jane is a kind woman who likes helping people celebrate their weddings. She has been a bridesmaid 27 times and feels happy helping brides on their most important day.

Jane meets Kevin, a newspaper writer whose outlook on love is very different from hers. 

Kevin soon finds out that Jane is a hopeless romantic who believes deeply in weddings and sacrifices her own needs for others. Kevin on the other hand is cynical about weddings and sees many of them as performances rather than genuine expressions of love.

At one point Kevin goes to Jane's home and sees her closet filled with the 27 bridesmaid dresses she has worn over the years. He questions it. He asks her why had she filled the big closet with the bridesmaid dresses. 

That day Jane confessed to Kevin that maybe a day will come when she is the bride and other women are there for her. 

Jane felt a shift because for the first time someone paid attention to her story instead of treating her as a supporting person in someone else's story.

Kevin begins to admire Jane's kindness and loyalty. But unlike the other people around her, he challenges her assumptions and encourages her to think about what she wants.

Their relationship grows through conversations, shared experiences and understanding rather than grand romantic gestures. Their love doesn't come across as a result of a dramatic destiny. It's based on two people gradually recognizing and appreciating each other's true selves. The slow emotional shift is what gives the story its charm.

I was crazy about this movie. There are so many things I love about it. Jane's caring nature, her selfless caring for her younger sister. She kept caring for her inspite of her own unhappiness.

But the most adorable thing is how Kevin looks out for her. Kevin notices Jane spends so much time helping others that she barely has a life of her own. It's adorable how he tracks her, tries to make her realize her own needs. He even made her practice to say No to her sister. He was the reason for her fury when she came to know her sister had tore up their mother's wedding dress. And he was the one who supported her after she brought her sister's hypocrisy to her fiance's attention. And he was the one who on their wedding day asked her "Is this moment everything you hoped for?"

I remembered this movie and watched it recently. And fell in love with it all over again. The funny thing is my friend who suggested me to watch it didn't like it as much as I did!
